Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

We are looking for an applicant who has either completed their general surgical training or who is in their final year of training and is looking for a role that allows them to work in a supportive supervised environment. This will allow the successful applicant to gain further experience as an independent specialist. We require someone who thrives on change and being busy. Teaching and supervision of RMO’s is an important part of the role.

CCDHB provides colorectal tertiary services to both Wellington and central regional patients. The unit has four colorectal surgeons, two Clinical Nurse Specialist roles and an RMO team. We manage patients with benign and malignant disease. Our work is driven by faster cancer treatment timeframes. The Fellow will support work in the operating theatre, endoscopy and clinic setting. Participation in the department Audit programme is a requirement. We are looking for someone who can work independently, managing their own clinics and operating lists.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Vocationally registered in General Surgery with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
  • FRACS or equivalent qualification or to be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
  • Interest in Colorectal Surgery
  • Able to work unsupervised in clinic and operating theatres
  • Relevant skills and experience
