We have a unique opportunity for a suitably qualified General Surgeon to join our Surgical team. We are looking for a surgeon who demonstrates a commitment to high quality care, teaching and leadership in the field.
The successful candidate will manage a wide range of General Surgical conditions. Experience in Breast surgery and management of Breast disease would be an advantage, however the successful candidate will be expected to fully participate in the General Surgical on call roster and manage acute patients. An experienced endoscopist for both upper and lower gastrointestinal procedures would be an advantage.
The General and Vascular surgery team is part of a close knit and supportive medical community within the Hawke’s Bay DHB. Our team is committed to providing a high quality of care to the Hawke’s Bay population. There is a strong collegial attitude and an active commitment to ongoing education.
Hawke’s Bay DHB has its main hospital situated in Hastings, New Zealand. It is a large secondary level, 400 bed accredited public hospital providing acute and elective care for a region of 165,000 people. The hospital offers a full range of surgical, medical, oncology and radiological services. It boasts a level 2 Intensive Care unit and an Anaesthetic department capable of handling all major cases. There are seven operating theatres with an expansion to eight currently in the final phases of planning. There is a separate endoscopy services building that was commissioned in 2018 in time to start offering the National Bowel Screening Programme to the Hawke’s Bay population. Junior medical staff support includes four accredited SET trainees and seven unaccredited General Surgical registrars. There are clinical nurse specialists for all the major subspecialties including trauma.

Applicants must be registered, or eligible for registration, with the New Zealand Medical Council as a Specialist General Surgeon and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, or equivalent.
