Dr Kate Tietjens

Dr Kate Tietjens is an Intensive Care Specialist at Wellington Hospital. Her interests in ICU include paediatrics, palliative care and communication. She supervises and teaches Trainee Interns at the Wellington School of Medicine one day per week and has an interest in medical education and simulation. She is the College of ICU Medicine Supervisor of Training for Wellington, and the NZ regional representative for the Women in Intensive Care ANZICS Committee.
Kate is married to a general surgeon; James Tietjens who works at Hutt Hospital. She maintains an interest in general surgery due to being repeatedly awoken by late night phone calls while he is on call. They have 3 boys Charlie, Freddie and Tom aged 7, 5 and 3 (she is used to being in male dominated environments most of the time). She has a penchant for 90s hip-hop, curating her collection of over 50 house plants, and maintaining her status as the Silver Ferns biggest fangirl.
