Nigel Henderson’s turangawaewae (place to stand) is Kaka Point (Wairawaru) in South Otago. He is of Ngai Tahu and Ngati Pakeha descent, trained at Otago Medical School, and is a New Zealand trained General Surgeon awarded FRACS in 2010. Following two years of Colorectal fellowship in New Zealand and Australia, he has been New Plymouth based since 2013, as a general surgeon with a colorectal interest. He has a keen interest in surgical education, and is a member of the NZAGS executive, and has been a member of Te ORA (Ohu Rata o Aotearoa) since medical school. He also has strong interests in provincial surgery, and equality in surgical and health care.
