Ms Alexandra Gordon is a Upper GI, Bariatric and General Surgeon at Palmerston North Hospital. She received her fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2013 after completing training in New Zealand. She undertook three years of further sub-specialty training in Christchurch (Christchurch Hospital), Sydney (Royal North Shore Hospital) and Edinburgh (Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh) and completed the ANZGOSA (Australia and New Zealand Gastric & Oesophageal Surgery Association) post-fellowship training program in 2016.
Her research interests include optimising outcomes in oesophagogastric cancer resection and she has published on the use of biomarkers to predict complications after oesophagectomy. She also is actively involved in teaching trainees and is supervisor of training for General Surgery at Palmerston North Hospital.
Alexandra routinely treats patients with oesophageal, gastric and pancreatic malignancies. In addition to resectional surgery she regularly performs interventional endoscopy both for the treatment of primary oesophagogastric cancer and for the management of post-operative complications.
