Breast Implants: Taking the Rough with the Smooth
Breast implants were introduced for cosmetic and reconstructive use in 1965. For the following five decades a number of implant related issues have emerged. Like any medical device these issues have been addressed and minimised through technological changes and clinical research. This presentation will focus on the common implant related issues that cause morbidity and lead to implant revisional surgery, such as capsular contracture and device failure, as well as more contemporary concerns, such as BIA-ALCL and breast implant illness.
