Dr Magda Sakowska is a general surgeon in Timaru, New Zealand. Like most New Zealand trainees, she spent close to a decade as a nomad, testing the IT infrastructure of several DHBs across the South and lower North Islands. She also spent a year in Geelong, Victoria comparing electronic health records across the Tasman. Having now settled in one of the smallest regions in a consultant post, she faces the daily duplication of paperwork and the lack of health care visibility that comes with it. She spends her evenings negotiating bedtime routines with two sons, gardening and perfecting artisan sour dough.
