Congratulations to General Surgeon Phil Bagshaw.

A year after he was shortlisted for New Zealander of the Year, Bagshaw has been made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the New Year’s honours for his services to health.

The general surgeon started a charity hospital. He was one of the founding members and chair of the Canterbury Charity Hospital Trust, set up in 2004 to provide free treatment for people who were not being seen in the public sector, but could not afford to go private.
