NZAGS delivers General Surgery training through a Service Agreement with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS). Governance of General Surgery training across Australia and New Zealand is administered by the Board in General Surgery (BiGS).
The College (RACS) is the principal body for the training and education of surgeons in Australia and New Zealand. Accreditation is given by the Australian and New Zealand Medical Councils to the College and standards for education and training are established by the College.
Trainees are selected for the five year training course each July. For more information regarding the minimum requirements and regulations for this process please click here.
Pre register with RACS – from 6 January 2020
Must hold New Zealand or Australian Medical Registration
Completion of the Generic Surgical Sciences Examination
Completion of at least 12 weeks of Critical Care from one unit
Completion of the Procedural Skills and Professional Capabilities form
Completion of at least 26 weeks of General Surgery from one surgical term
