The principal functions of the New Zealand Association of General Surgeons are to represent the broad and collective interests of general surgeons, particularly in the areas of vocational training, continuing professional development, workforce planning, as well as acting as the interface between general surgeons, Government and components of the health sector generally.

The Australia and New Zealand Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery Association (ANZGOSA) and the Australia and New Zealand Hepatic, Pancreatic and Biliary Association (ANZHPBA) are having a combined meeting:

2-3rd October 2014 in Queenstown.

The theme is Contentious issues in Upper GI/HPB surgery;redefining current practice using best evidence.

"We have a very exciting social and scientific programme planned which includes opportunities to enjoy the best of the South Island. The dates have been chosen to allow family participation so please do include them if possible. There will be separate, focused Upper GI and HPB sessions followed by a combined day discussing areas of shared interest. The content will be relevant to specialists in these areas and General Surgeons with an interest.
